Now, I wrote an entire post about how to play this game on a Windows 11, but I can no longer locate it (I’m kind of a noob to website ownership, admittedly).
BUT… I have no issue explaining how to play this game again, which is roughly 15 years your computer’s senior and (as expected) has compatibility issues with your device. You do NOT need an emulator. You don’t even need to download files from the Internet. You can fix the game entirely on your hard drive.
Here are some issues you may have encountered, and why you’ve encountered them:
1. The game will not launch with the shortcut created when you installed it.
The most important thing you need to know about that shortcut is: it doesn’t take you directly to the game. It takes you to the updater for the game. Now, we don’t give a flying fuck about the updater. It’ll tell you it needs this.dll and that.dll, but it is not worth your time finding these files. We don’t need the updater anyways.
2. The game launches, but shows no video.
That must have been very disappointing. But that only means it’s configured for old-ass hardware. Because after all, it’s an old-ass game.
The Solution:
- Open the game’s folder.
- Locate the file titled prefs.prop.
- Delete that file. OR rename the file extension if you want to keep it a backup (for some odd reason).
- Double click CSI4.exe. Voila! (Feel free to create a shortcut of that executable file as well, and place it on your desktop).
